After a degree of prevarication, Dubai says food containing alcohol can be served in restaurants provided that it is segregated from other cuisine and plainly marked, Dubai newspaper The National reported Tuesday.

The liberal Gulf emirate announced Sunday it would enforce a 2003 law banning alcohol in food preparation, on the basis of complaints from Muslim consumers who were not warned that dishes in some restaurants included alcohol. But it now looks like Dubai has changed its mind, based on comments from Khaled Sharif al Awadhi, director of Dubai municipality's food control department.

“We have found violations where hotels are not clearly stating alcohol content in their food,” it quoted him as saying. Awadhi also stated that alcohol should be treated like other “non-halal products” such as pork.

Countertop ovens are a progressive and convenient enhancement of the stove-top oven. Countertop ovens comprise a number of benefits over stove type ovens, including economy of space and fuel efficiency due to enhanced and more advanced design.

A good quality countertop oven will have multiple functions such as heating, baking, broiling and toasting. Many countertop ovens will switch off following a set time because of an in-built timer function. This enhances energy economy and safety.

Even if the countertop oven is small it is by no means too small to heat your favourite dishes. Most have space for a big baking tray or a pizza dish and moreover most ovens have two levels.

When buying a countertop oven you should be looking out for one which includes all the right utensils. It should be equipped with a crumb tray, pizza tray, baking tray, broil grid, a rack and handle.

Convection heating is an optional form of countertop oven. Convection uses hot circulating air, driven by an inner fan.

It is suggested that when using a convection oven food should be cooked 20 degrees C lower and that the food is checked approximately ten minutes earlier than when cooking with regular oven.

There are obvious advantages to using a countertop oven, both monetary and economical. Here are some:

Cooking time is less, often reduced by up to thirty five per cent, which saves money.

Countertop ovens are space-efficient.

This category of oven means you need to use fewer other cooking pans, removing much post cooking cleaning effort.

Countertop ovens have removeable racks and translucent glass doors which make this type of oven easy to clean both inside and out.

This is an easy recipe for a delicious home-made cheese and tomato pizza. Most of the work is in the dough preparation but get this right and the results are great.

Pizza Dough Ingredients:

1tsp – salt

Warm water 120ml

1tbsp – olive oil
